Greece and Turkey in the 21st century: conflict or cooperation. A political economy perspective

Abstract:

This book may be the first to look at Greek-Turkish relations from an economic standpoint and may be further unique in its gathering of Greek and Turkish scholars together in one volume, as well as scholars from different disciplines.

The work is organised in four parts. Part one consists of two chapters which approach Greek-Turkish bilateral relations from an international relations and political science perspective and are presented in a historical context. Part two addresses the two economies, their respective development and performance and their bilateral economic relations within the new economic environment of the region. The third part contains contributions on the individual relations between each country and the European Union, as well as their bilateral relations in view of their positions with the EU which has provided the main catalyst in those relations. Both countries are high defence spenders and this aspect of their relationship is the main thrust of part four of the book.

The work will interest scholars and students, policy researchers and politicians engaged in the fields of European studies and integration and international relations.
