Guidelines on regional State aid

Communication published by the European Commission on 19 April 2021 setting out a set of guidelines concerning regional state aid for the period 2022-2027.

These guidelines set out rules under which Member States of the European Union (EU) can grant State aid to companies to support the economic development of disadvantaged regions, while ensuring a level playing field between Member States. These guidelines enter into force on 1 January 2022.

The rules were revised following an assessment of the existing rules and a consultation of all stakeholders on the draft text. The revised guidelines include a number of targeted amendments aimed at simplifying and reflecting experience gained from the application of previous rules, as well as reflecting new policy priorities relating to the European Green Deal, the Industrial Strategy and the Digital Strategy.
