THE head of a 'mismanaged' international democracy organisation whose bid for EU funding was exposed by European Voice has resigned.

Bengt Säve-Söderbergh of International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) in Stockholm was criticised in a report last year for putting "personal loyalties" before "professional relationships".

His departure comes as the European Commission rejected the group's €10-million request for election monitoring and democracy projects in several states.
