In the context of the dispute in the autumn of 2014 concerning a demand from the European Commission for increased budgetary contributions from a number of EU Member States, including the Netherlands, Dutch Finance Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem told Dutch media in late November 2014 that it was 'in the Netherlands's interest to pay this year' after the government experienced some financial windfall.
