Policy logics and institutions of European space collaboration

Book abstract:

The author offers a fresh insight into the dynamics of international collaboration involved in the development of European space policy from the early 1960s to the present. The work explores both the subjective understanding of policy makers and the reactive response to international pressures of which the United States has been the dominant player. Following the Introduction, chapter two develops the analytical framework for understanding the changing historical dynamics of European space collaboration. Chapters three to five then examine three different historical periods featuring different institutional frameworks. Institutional change at national level and the relationship between the European Space Agency and the EU are the focus of chapters six and seven. The concluding chapter draws together the findings in earlier chapters, suggests an amendment to the ways in which we understand the dynamics of European space collaboration, and offers signposts for the future of European integration.
The book will interest students and academics in the fields of European Studies, International Relations and International Political Economy.
