Press Release: Commission assesses Italian action to correct excessive deficit by 2007 and examines updated Stability Programme

The European Commission on 22 February 2006 announced its view that, subject to a full implementation of the 2006 budget and the adoption of adequate corrective measures for 2007, Italy was on track to correct its excessive deficit by 2007 as recommended by the Council in July 2005. Separately, the European Commission also examined Italy's updated pluriannual stability programme.
