Press Release: Marek Belka meets José Manuel Barroso

Mr. Marek Belka, the new Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) visited the European Commission in Brussels on 10 and 11 April 2006.

On this occasion he met with Mr. José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission. They discussed the major areas of common interest to the two institutions, in particular the European Union Neighbourhood Policy, energy security and the role of the UNECE in the context of the European architecture. In order to strengthen the cooperation between the two institutions, Mr. Barroso has decided to establish a focal point to deal with UNECE matters.
