While there were still more than two months until the first round of voting in the French Presidential Election on the 22 April 2012 pressure was building on Nicolas Sarkozy to declare his candidacy to seize back the initiative from François Hollande, his Socialist rival, whom he trailed in polls.

The exact date was still a secret but Nicolas Sarkozy had by the 10 February 2012 kicked off, in all but name, his bid to be re-elected as French president with new policy measures and a magazine interview to be published on the 11 February 2012, setting out his 'values for France'.
