In a speech given on the 16 May 2016 Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne set out why it would be a huge mistake for the United Kingdom to leave the EU and the Single Market.

In a joint appearance with political rivals Sir Vince Cable and Ed Balls, Mr Osborne warned that leaving the EU’s Single Market would be a 'one way ticket to a poorer Britain'.

'We’ve already heard the economic case from the likes of the Bank of England, the IMF, and even the President of the United States; all of our allies and trading partners are in agreement. The economic argument is beyond doubt - it’s not a conspiracy; it’s called a consensus'.
