Overview of the Third Mobility Package, launched on 17 May 2018 by the European Commission.
With this third and last 'Europe on the Move' package the Commission is completing its ambitious agenda for the modernisation of mobility. The objective is to allow all Europeans to benefit from safer traffic, less polluting vehicles and more advanced technological solutions, while supporting the competitiveness of the EU industry.
Building on the previous initiatives of May and November 2017, the package delivers on the renewed industrial policy strategy of September 2017, and is designed to complete the process of enabling Europe to reap the full benefits of the modernisation of mobility. To do so, it is essential that tomorrow's mobility system is safe, clean and efficient for all EU citizens.
The Third Mobility Package includes the following documents:
In his State of the European Union address of September 2017, President Juncker set out a goal for the EU and its industries to become a world leader in innovation, digitisation and decarbonisation. The Commission has adopted a comprehensive approach to ensure that the EU's mobility policies reflect these political priorities.
Following the Low-Emission Mobility Strategy, the Commission adopted two 'Mobility Packages' respectively in May and November 2017. These set out a positive agenda and included legislative proposals and initiatives delivering on the low-emission mobility strategy and ensuring a smooth transition towards clean, competitive and connected mobility for all.
