Summary: Communication published by the European Commission on 3 December 2020, setting out the Media and Audiovisual Action Plan (MAAP). Further information: The media and audio visual sectors are deemed essential for democracy, cultural diversity and digital autonomy in Europe. However, they were also particularly hit by the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. This Action Plan focuses on three areas of activity and a series of concrete actions, to help the media sector recover from the crisis by facilitating and broadening access to finance, transform by stimulating investments to embrace the twin digital and green transitions while ensuring the sector's future resilience and empower European citizens and companies. The Commission published the Communication on 3 December 2020, alongside the publication of the European Democracy Action Plan (EDAP). The Council of the European Union adopted a set of conclusions on 18 May 2021 in response to this Action Plan. |
