Meetings of the Foreign Affairs Council were held from 10-13 December 2017. The agenda includes the following topics:

+ Discussion on current affairs, allowing ministers to review pressing issues on the international agenda;

+ Discussion on the situation in Iraq amid preparations for an EU Strategy for that country;

+ Debate on the latest development in the Middle East;

+ Adoption of a Decision establishing the permanent structured cooperation (PESCO);

+ Discussion on the EU-G5 Sahel cooperation with counterparts from the region;

+ Discussion on the follow-up to the 2017 EU-African Union summit;

+ Exchange of views on how trade and investment can contribute to development strategies, followed by the adoption of conclusions.

Foreign ministers also held an informal meeting with Israel's Prime Minister, during which they discussed bilateral relations and regional developments.

Some of the meetings of the Foreign Affairs Council were held in the margins of the WTO ministerial conference, during which ministers adopted the EU's position at the summit. They also reflected on the conclusions and approve the meeting's outcome.
