The European Council discussed the European Commission's revamped proposals for the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2021-2027 and for a post-COVID recovery instrument also known as Next Generation EU. An in-person special summit was scheduled for mid-July to focus on these proposals.
Leaders were also briefed on the discussions between the EU and UK on their future relationship, following a high-level meeting held a few days before via video conference. There was also an update on the state of play regarding the implementation of the Minsk Agreements, after which a political decision was made to roll-over existing economic sanctions.
The plenary of the European Parliament held a debate on the outcome of this meeting on 8 July.
