Summary: Communication published on 10 March 2020 by the European Commission, framing a package of initiatives relating to a reset of the European Union's industrial policy. Further information: The Strategy aims at supporting the EU's industry in handling the twin transitions towards climate neutrality and digital transformation, as well as driving the EU's competitiveness and autonomy at a time of moving geopolitical plates and increasing global competition. The package of initiatives outlines an approach to European industrial policy that is rooted in what are seen as 'European values and social market traditions'. The 'New Industrial Strategy for Europe' sets out the key drivers of industrial transformation and proposes a set of actions to be put forward throughout the mandate of the College of Commissioners. Alongside this Communication, a package of other documents were also adopted by the European Commission:
The European Council called in March 2019 for a comprehensive and long-term EU industrial policy strategy, along with an integrated approach for a deeper and stronger single market. The need for such an agenda was reflected in the Political Guidelines of Ursula von der Leyen as President of the European Commission, the priorities set out by the Strategic Agenda 2019-2024, the European Green Deal and the European Commission's 'Strategy on Shaping Europe's Digital Future'. |
